The story of a Golden Globe nominated actress who’s done much of it and advice to those who want to do it!

StopTheWorld2Words from the Musical written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse back in the day.  And it’s rather my feeling at the moment.

Hello everyone from the good old US of A.   Back here after a great, productive trip back to the UK and…..goodness what chaos there is there now.   I am saddened by our decision to leave Europe and I am sure that a few people like Winston Churchill will be rolling in their graves.  Many brave lives were lost in two major wars centered in Europe, young lives, people who deserved better.  By creating an integrated Europe we had hoped that we had buried that dreadful past, not to mention all the wars that had gone before.   I am not suggesting that we are facing more wars in Europe, but I don’t think we all feel quite the same about each other at the moment.   My father, a refugee from Nazi Germany would be very sad.  The multilingual recruitment business he started possibly would not have survived, without the free movement between the UK and the EU.   My lovely Swedish assistant Sanna, when I was running the Company, is in shock.   Most of my good friends here in the US are amazed and disappointed and this wave of nationalism and “close our borders” current message is alarming to say the least.  And without a doubt..social media and the Media in general has not been helpful.

Anyway I had to get that off my chest…  The weather here is Boise is beautiful, hot, but lovely, my little house and garden are peaceful…the vegetables are growing and even my neglected roses are battling on.  I am grateful.  My family is doing well, my little grandson announced to his parents that he missed me and wanted to see me, once I got back.  So he did!  I am a fortunate woman.  London was terrific, very crowded, but fun and lively and the English countryside is still very beautiful, I spent a few days in Suffolk with my dearest friend Jenni.  And in October I

return to England to do the Scottish play (‘Macbeth’ to you and me) at The Groundlings Theatre – the second oldest theatre in the UK in Portsmouth, historic naval town.  (Macbeth has a history of very bad luck in the theatre, hence it’s called The Scottish Play).

Thats all for now friends : To quote the World War II message, I say “Keep Calm and Carry On”…the madness and the hype will slow down in due course.

  • Hi, Jane,
Did you see the message I left for you the other day? I was just asking how you liked working with Mike Pratt and Kenneth Cope on Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) back in 69! I know you also appeared with Mike on Danger Man too and was Patrick McGoohan as terrible as people claim?

    Best wishes,
    John.

  • Jane,

Glad you made it back to Boise ok.
After the Referendum, you’ve got to look forward to the US Election….best of luck with that.
With the EU vote, i personally think they should have had a 60% minimum vote for exit.
A simple majority was wrong for such an important decision.

    Best wishes
    Peter Bonner
