This is a little bit about the making of the short film Last Embrace
I wrote the screenplay for this film, in the frame of mind that seems to fit our times. Covid, end of life and uncertainty are all around us at the moment. People are unsettled, disturbed, nervous. I think, I hope that this story may give some peace of mind. I have already had messages from viewers, who say that this film has helped them in their time of need.
Cary Judd is a musician, filmmaker, songwriter currently living with his wife and little daughter here in Boise. We first worked together on my short film About Andy, he was assisting on camera (we were using his Black Magic camera) and wrote the music for the film. He also took some of the best head shots of me I have ever had taken. I thought Cary would be right for the part of the Man in Last Embrace. He had the right look and feel for the character, although he wasn’t strictly an actor. He loved the script and said “Let’s do it…can I play the Man?” And there it sat, until the Garcia Brothers came into my life!

Andy and Nate Garcia are filmmaking brothers here in Boise. They have the reputation of being one of the best, at the top of their game. I loved their film Hero and wanted to work with them and sent them this script. They really liked it and said let’s do it! I sat back thinking, well that’ll be another few months and before I knew it, they had it all set up and said let’s go! With talented Myles Davis on sound ( no body mics, thank goodness) and we were on location and shooting…it took all of three hours, amazing and I think the result was excellent. And the amazing Garcias had it edited within a week.
And that’s the story of Last Embrace friends….till next time!
