“Why love if losing hurts so much….the pain now is part of the happiness then”. A truncated quote from Anthony Hopkins….rings true in my ears. Love is on my mind on this last day of 2016…the romantic, the familial, friendship….all love. Its the one emotion that gives our lives vitality, meaning, however painful it can be. We have lost many good people this year and the pain of losing them resonates with those closest to them and with those of us who simply loved and admired them from a distance. A good friend commented that life is much about loss. I think she’s right. Its the end of the year and I am in philosophical frame of mind. Isn’t the final day of a year the right time to dwell on such thoughts?
Still we who are left behind must soldier on and so we will and do. To all my friends who read my modest blogs, have a Happy, healthy New Year…..strife free 2017.
On a more practical note, it has been a very white, very cold Christmas here in Idaho…very pretty, but challenging to stay warm and drive on the snow covered roads. Apparently Boise cant afford any proper snow ploughs! The big challenge is not to land on one’s a..s, on the ice loaded sidewalks.
Been watching many of the new films in competition in this Awards season. My favourite so far is “Manchester by the Sea”, a beautifully written, deeply painful film about love and loss. All you hopeful actors out there…. watch Casey Affleck‘s amazing performance as a lesson on “how to do it”. It seems that my favourite, producer on this one, Matt Damon was originally slated to do the part, but his schedule conflicted and he said he would only give the part up if Casey Affleck played it. Hmmmm….think I might have hung on to this one.
Anyway friends no more rambling…thinking of you all and know my good wishes are with you!
PS : a little link to the wonderful Victoria Wood….oh, the joy of making people laugh!
